Prior to the day of the audition, you will sign up for a 10-minute meeting with the Artistic Director. There, you will be asked to sing either a short selection sent in advance or a 30-second cut of a song of your choice. The Artistic Director will test your ability to hold a part, or harmonize. During this time you will have the opportunity to ask questions and relay other special skills that may be useful to the chorus.
No, simply let the Artistic Director you would like to sing with us again.
Yes. We always try to provide part-specific recordings on the members-only section of the LCC website. Only singing on rehearsal nights is not enough. Each chorus member is responsible for practicing on their own between regular rehearsals.
No. A person does not need to read music. That’s what the learning aids are for. And that’s what makes us a “community” chorus.
Currently, membership fees are $50 per singer per session. The LCC offers scholarships to members who are unable to pay the fee; please contact LCC President David Lincoln at dlincoln@lakeshorecommunitychorus.org to request scholarship assistance.
Membership fees cover the cost of music for each session, which constitutes about 10% of our budgeted expenses for the year.
The basic attire includes either a white or black shirt (depending on the concert), black pants or long skirts, black socks, and black shoes. LCC often provides scarves, ties, or other accessories to use during the concert.
General rehearsals are scheduled once a week during the concert season, at the First Congregational Church of Saugatuck. The Artistic Director and Sectional Leaders may schedule additional practice for solos, ensembles, or sections, as needed. There is an additional dress rehearsal at the performance venue prior to concerts.
The LCC presents a Holiday concert in December as well as a Spring concert, offering two performances for each event. In addition, we have sung at Halloween concerts, Saugatuck-Douglas PRIDE events, senior living communities, and other venues in western Michigan in recent years.
The chorus is open to those in high school and adults of all ages.
